Are taller women at greater risk with cancer? (causal or just a correlation?) .

Tall Women Face Greater Cancer Risk: Study

Repost from Newsmax health July 25, 2013

Are taller women more prone to cancer.  A recent study would seem to suggest so. ("The taller they are....)

This seems to be the correlation, more so than obesity and this covers all types of cancer from thyroid to melanoma.  The study involved subjects;  women aged 50 to 79, numbering l45,000 for 12 years and 20, 928 of them developed cancer.  The subjects were participant in a 15 year study conducted by National Health Institute for Women's Health Initiative.

On the average, the subject had 38.2% risk of developing cancer in their lifetime.

About height correlation:

For every 10 cm (about 4 inches) the risk of developing cancer;

For cancer of the kidney, rectum, thyroid, or blood, the risk increased (doubled) to 23 to 29%

The study was conducted by Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Yashiva University in New York and the lead researcher was Geoffrey Kabat.

The explanation may be that:  tall girls had special nutrition during their growth period and milk and hormones may increase the risk of the abnormality of cell growth.  Or that the greater body mass and area exposes their body to risk factors/carcinogens.

So tall girls better have yourself examined regularly for cancer (this is a precaution, not a scary post) And this is based on a study.

Do Omega 3 fatty acids raise the risk of prostate cancer?

Live healthy and long

Repost from Dr. Mercola archives | July 31, 2013

Dr. Mercola has long advocated the taking of Omega 3 for many ailments.  And yet reccently headlines blared the possible danger of Omega 3 for prostate cancer developments.<tumorigeneric?>  These scary news came out of Science Daily, Huffington Post, Time, Nursing Times, and Time Magazine.  The news was based on a finding published last July 10 at the Journal of National Cancer Institute

It was pointed out though that none of the subjects took Omega 3 during the time of treatment/or study,  The higher DHA level was equated with taking Omega 3 supplements.  There is a criticism vs. Dr. Alan Cristy by Dr. Bowden in a Huffington Post rebuttal that the conclusion by Dr. Cristy was related to his strong anti nutrional supplement bias.

It was conveniently not mentioned/ignored that the subjects:   smoked, took alcohol, and were obese:  other cancer triggering factors.
