Can sunscreens actually accelerate promote cancer?

Live healthy and long

From Dr Mercola

There is a growing debate on the use of sunscreen vs suns rays which can be cause of skin cancer. The Neutrogena giant, subsidiary of J & J has been spending and promoting a lot with Canadian Cancer Society on use of sunscreens.

What are the sides of the issues:

l.  Dermatologists recommend use of sunscreens to prevent skin cancer from suns harmful rays and use of eyewear. (Use of bull cap or baseball cap would be better.

2.  Regular exposure to sunlight rather than intermittent exposure  may actually decrease risk of cancer.  Why Vit D from sunlight is an anti cancer agent.

3. Sunscreen actually contain a lot of toxic chemicals that are carcinogenic as oxybenzone.

Eating vegetables rich in anti oxidants (as carotenoids) help prevent skin cancer (as these nutrients protec the planst from the sun's deadly UV rays.

Do you agree with the position of Dr. Mercola? or the dermatologists?

Are the different colored bell peppers different plants?

From a scientific standpoint, bell peppers all come from the same genus and species of plant, called Capsicum annuum. Some of the color differences in bell peppers originate in the cultivars used to grow them. (Cultivars are special varieties of a plant that growers select for desired characteristics. They still come from a single seed source, however—in this case, Capsicum annuum.)
Most of the differences in bell pepper color stem from time of harvest and degree of ripening. Green peppers are bell peppers that have been harvested before being allowed to fully ripen. While green bell peppers usually turn yellow-orange and then red this is not always the case. Red, orange, and yellow bell peppers are always more ripe than green ones and therefore require more time in the ground before they can be harvested; that's why they are more expensive. Bottom line: all of the bell peppers originate from the same species of plant, and they achieve their different colors naturally, not by any artificial means.
It's interesting to note that in addition to their unique colors, each differently hued bell pepper has a unique array of nutritional benefits. Green peppers feature an abundance of chlorophyll. Yellow peppers have more of the lutein and zeaxanthin carotenoids. Orange peppers have more alpha-, beta-, and gamma-carotene. Red peppers have more lycopene and astaxanthin, two other important carotenoids.

Camote, Sweet Potato is High in Beta Carotene, Not Carrots Alone

Effective Cures Can be Cheap

                                      Ipomea

Some years back when anti oxidants was the craze against heart disease and cancer, I requested my wife to juice carrots, which she did.   This can be expensive at times and time consuming.  However, if ound out from the book "The Food Pharmacy, dramatic evidence  that food is your best medicine" by Jean Carper, the other sources of beta carotene are:

Apricots (high in beta carotene

Brocolli

Brussel sprouts
Cabbage (green)

Kale (highest in carotenoids)

Lettuce

Squash

Spinach

Sweet Potatoes (rich in beta carotene)

Tomatoes

The vendor was not aware of the value of what she sells

Rule of thumb:   the darker green the color of the leaf, the deeper orange the fruit is, the richer in carotenoids.

For Filipinos, the availability of tomatoes, squash is a welcome news.  Sweet potatoes (Ipomea) is even great because the camote tops is used as vegetable in most dish.  It grows easily anywhere and cheap.

Brocolli also contains diindolymethane that confers anti bacterial and anti viral properties on brocolli.  It also contains carotenoids, an important anti oxidant.

Use of SFN on Colorectal Cancer resulting in Apoptosis

For the baby brocolli, the brocolli sprouts, as featured in BBC says that daily dose of brocolli sprouts  that contain the SFN was useful in reducing the H pylori bacteria.  H Pylori causes  ulcer and is linked to occurence of stomach cancer.
