Live healthy and long
This morning, January l, 2013, again as in the previous new year, heavy smoke filled the air. We do not know the long term effect on our health - specially on the respiratory system. How many will have asthma attacks, flu, cold, cancer or other COPD.
I do not know, despite, the Pablo, Ondoy and other super typhoons death and destruction they delivered, as to many people are aware of the connection between pollution and global warming?
None? Because many of us did what we have been doing, as part of New Year tradition, lighted fireworks and firecrackers to drive evil spirits away. But we bring in new evil spirits - disease, ill health, and climate change...
We did not use any firecracker last night.
The night scene from SLEX about 4 nights ago
Can you see anything at the other side of the lake? Is the air OK?
What is the quality of the air we breathe?
See the trash from fireworks, will they be cleaned up soon?
x Will they wait for the Barangay to clean up?
They were pretty last night, the trash now is ugly
x Smoky white skies result of firecracker smoke?
x
There is fresh air at Lakeside park?
The heron is unaware of the thick smoke surrounding the lake
The air was better several night ago; you can see Alabang from here
Am I wasting my time making this study?
Are these not being seen by people with eyes; or who have eyes who refuse to believe what they see?
I thought we have public sector in charge of protecting environment, the air quality? What are they doing? When do we act? The flooding from these, the pain is visible already, we can feel the effect now....Many ill effects on health is growing in number.
When do we act change?
On our part, we can cease from lighting fireworks and crackers on new years day. Walk and commute rather than bring car.

Study of Pollution of Mass Destruction
Effective Cures Can be Cheap
I tried to study using the camera, how the air pollution look like from afar MM. This is a crude way of "studying it" I am sure scientists from DENR, DOST, UP have better ways of measuring the air pollution. But I am aghast at what I saw....
Using the Nikon coolpix telephoto lens, this is how smoke starts to engulf buildings at Global City. Note the time.
Morning views/monitoring
Paranaque area was still visible
x So was Alabang area; bird in flight at the foreground
Paranaque area
Dramatic view of the SLEX skyline
Deteriorating air quality:
Skies begin to darken, bird in the foreground
Global City and surrounding areas begin to disappear
Clear skies but dark cities
It looks like its post New Year celebration
Can you still identify the place?
Opaque view of Global City
Bancas and joggers are visible; Taytay and Pasig skyline arent!
The fish pens, the hut, the banca are visible, western skyline unclear
Are we not wondering if Metro Manila commuters and residents still have functional respiratory system if this is their environment? I am glad I live in this area. Or we look the same from afar?
Are the scientists measuring the air quality?
Are they taking corrective action?
What is the effect on the health of MM residents and commuters of this phenomenon.?
Pollution in the afternoon
Maybe because of the wind and the very warm temperature, the dark skies over the Global City area disappeared. We should be thankful for the very warm temperature; they must have vaporized the polluting air. But the dark skies moved to SLEX and Alabang area.
Paranaque area
Alabang and SLEX area
Global City area now cleared of fumes, but still hazy though
The Southwestern side (SLEX) hardly visible
The buildings at Global city are visible from Lakeside; now they can breathe?
Stunning sunset views
Stunning Sunset showing clear skies, the high temp vaporized the pollutants?
Postcard perfect picture
This is the normal view of the other side of the lake
