Save the soybeans

Dr. Micozzi's Insiders' Health Recently, a Daily Dispatch reader wrote to me and asked me why I recommended eating a "processed" soy product such as tofu. I was puzzled at this imprecise reading of a term I had used. So let me help clarify my remarks...

First of all, I have never recommended eating processed food. And I never will.

But I did talk about fermented soy--as well as "culturally processed" soy--in a recent Daily Dispatch. Anthropologists have long used the term "process" to describe what traditional peoples do to prepare food for consumption. Long before the term "processed" was co-opted by big agribusiness.

I described the traditional cultural "process" used in China to convert raw soy to a usable food. The Chinese ferment the soybeans to get rid of the toxins that can cause gastro-intestinal upset and indigestion. And they also make traditional tofu, natto, and soy sauce. These are not "processed" foods.

Whole soybeans--called edamame in grocery stores and at sushi joints--are generally safe to eat in limited amounts. However, eating too much can cause digestion problems.

Also, you must always choose organic soybeans. Ninety-nine percent of the soybeans grown in the U.S. are genetically modified. So unless you choose an organic brand, you'll be eating a genetically modified soybean. And I don't ever recommend that!

Fats and germs - formerly bad stuff are good after all

Two items:  fatty foods and germs were considered bad before. (Myths)

 Fats as the cause of heart disease from the findings of Dr.  Ancel Keys in l953.  Before the study came out, only l/100 Americans were obese.  Now that number is increasing.  The real culprit is transfat and hydrogenated oil.  US literature made coconut oil as unhealthy.  (This caused the almost collapse of coconut industry in the PHL.  Now the buko juice news that it is better than sports drink caused the buko price to jump up to P20.00@ in Laguna, from mere P5.00 two years ago.

The other is the germs is bad.  But germs from fermented food improve gut culture.  And so with yogurt, kefir, They also improve GAPs.

What are the other foods good for the health:

l.  Raw eggs

2. Fermented vegetables --kimchi, atchara

3.  Kefir and other fermented milk

4.  Sardines

5.   Avocado - know more about the rest of healthy foods (Avocado is cheap in the PHL and aplenty)

Eating this will improve your gut ecosystem and mental health

This is actually a repost.  Eating fermented foods, probiotics (yogurt and kefir) can improve your gut composition.

Our gut contains some 10trillion bacteria, much more than our total body cells.  80% of our immune system is located in our guts.


 Eating junk food, drinking wine, and softdrinks can destroy your gut ecosystem.  This can be bad for overall health - including mental health  (The GAPS theory by Dra. Natasha Campbell Mcbride) GAPS (Gut and Psychology Syndrome - this is about NP syndrome of children as caused by defective guts/foods taken)  Dr. Mcbride Nutritional program is especially recommended if you suffer from auto immunological diseases like SLE,  MS, rheumatoid arthritis

In the article, there is an interview with Carol Berringer, a certified NTP who can prepare the diet as specified in Dr. Mcbride GAPS.

It is too late to learn of this.  I know of a friend whose GF died from SLE, and a huge amount of money was spent trying to save her.  His GF did not survive the onslaught of SLE.  How I wish I knew of this sooner.

Flouridated antibiotics are the world's most dangerous?

  A certain class of antibiotics known as  flourquinolones, flouridated antibiotics and they are associated with the following side effects: retinal detachment, kidney problems, ruprtured tendons,  Others:   (not included in the warning labels)  infection by staphyloccus aureus,  injury to CNS, gastrointestinal problems, phototoxicity, altered blood sugar metabolism,  liver problems, kidney problems.

 Such antibiotics have been subject of 2,000 lawsuits.  The brand names include:   Avelox, Cipro, and Levaquin.  Antibiotics in general disturb intestinal flora.   There are good and beneficial microbes in the gut and must be preserved.


 Some suggestions to lessen use of antibiotics and preserve gut flora: .
