Top 3 Supplements you need most

Top 3 Supplements You Need the Most

What are the top 3 supplements that your body needs most?  They are calcium, Vitamin D, and Omega 3 fatty acids from fish oil.

Here is the latest post from Newsmax Health on the said article.   (Dr. Mercola harps on this very often.  Omega 3 is his favorite)

 1.         Vitamin D “is the most common nutrient deficiency in America today,” says Steven Masley, M.D., author of The 30-Day Heart Tune-up. Vitamin D is created in our body when sunshine hits our skin. However, most of us spend our days indoors. “We spend far less time outdoors than our ancestors did,” says Dr. Masley. “Every cell in your body needs vitamin D to function at its best.” Deficiencies are responsible for high blood pressure, increased risk of heart attacks, and strokes, says the Tampa-based physician.

Low vitamin D is also associated with loss of bone density, increased risk of cancer, autoimmune disorders, Alzheimer’s disease and diabetes. In England, there was a recent surge in rickets, a childhood bone disease caused by lack of vitamin D. “Since it is difficult to get enough of this vitamin from food,” says Dr. Masley, “you need to get plenty of sunshine, but without letting yourself get burned.”

Bottom line:
Take a vitamin D supplement with 2,000 IUs daily.

2.         Calcium. Although Americans eat a lot of calcium-rich foods, including dairy products, we tend to be deficient because our modern diets are too acidic, which reduces the amount of the mineral in our bodies, says nutritionist J.J. Virgin, author of The Virgin Diet Cookbook. She says that beyond protecting bone health, calcium has a calming effect on the nervous system. It’s found in dairy foods, green vegetables and salmon.

Bottom line: Take a 500-mg calcium supplement daily.

3.         Omega-3 fatty acids reduce inflammation that leads to heart disease and cancer. There are three types: EPA and DHA, which you find in fatty fish like salmon and mackerel, and ALA which you get in vegetable oils and walnuts. “Ideally you should be eating three to four servings of wild, cold-water seafood each week,” says Virgin.

Bottom line: Take 2 grams of a high-quality fish oil supplement daily.

Omega 3 fatty acids in fish stops cancer growth

Live healthy and long

Repost from Newsmax health | August 2, 2013

Fish oil containing found in salmon and trout are effective in combatting squamous cancer cells found in mouth, throat, and skin.  This was the finding in Queen Mary Hospital  in London.  Dr. Zacharoula Nikolakopolou, MD made this discovery while studying at the said hospital.   Large therapeutic doses are needed to treat cancer and the body does not have the means to sythesize Omega 3 fatty acid.  Supplements from diet and nutrition are needed.

Kenneth Parkinson head of Oral Cancer Research Group at Queen Mary's Institute of Dentistry, that omega 3 fatty acid in therapeutic dose selectively targetted the cancer cells without affecting the normal cells (which is not possible with other cancer treatment)

Little research has been done on oral cancer or action of omega 3 on normal cells

Reducing your blood pressure the natural way - cheap cure

Live healthy and long

The still warm days still contribute to high incidence of high blood pressure.  Some of our staff experience bp of 150/110 and this is rather abnormal.  This is not rare in view of the warm conditions.  We tried to research on how this could be overcome

What are the natural ways of reducing high blood pressure:

1.  Dr. Mercola archives  - Take garlic;  garlic is not only anti fungal, or anti viral.  It is good in controlling inflammation of the cardiovascular system -  just compress a clove prior to swallowing it, or put  a clove together with vegies in a juicer.

2.  From the Food Pharmacy by Jean Carper   -  page 326.  Mackerel, two cans per week can normalize your bp in just two weeks.  Other foods are:  olive oil, yogurt, seaweed, green tea, kelp (sea weed)  (Download the book by Jean Carper)

 3.  Eating mackerel  -  this seems to be the quickest and surest way of lowering blood pressure.  In a study conducted in Berlin, Germany a  groups of men (24 in all) were studied.  They received no medication for their mild hypertension and for the next 8 months, they were fed 3 ounces of mackerel 3x a week.  Their omega 3 fatty acids rose but their bp nomralized.

Before the test, their bp averaged 149/99.  However after just two weeks of 3 ounces of mackerel, their bp went down to only to 136/88.  The bp went to the pre mackerel level when they stopped eating the mackerel.   While mackerel is high in sodium, the omega 3 fatty acid could lower the bp on the average by 7% (that is a lot).

4.  Blood thinners -  onions and garlic.  Both onions and garlic can prevent rbc from aggrupating and coagulating.   So an onion a day keeps high blood pressure a day? (from Carper book page 194)

The most potent food drug in reducing high bp seems to  garlic as was investigated by Dr Petkov  in Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.  He found out that garlic can reduce bp by:

systolic  -  20 - 30 points

diastolic  - 10 -20 points

(page 203)

5.  Apple -  also  from Jean Carper book;  an apple a day keeps the doctor a way.  But 3 apples a day makes your heart healthy and lowers bp/cholesterol.  Dr. Sable Amplis speculates that pectin, the substance in apple skin together with Vit C. helps reduce cholesterol by as much as 30%  (page 115)

The GOOD NEWS IS THAT COFFEE DOES NOT NECESSARILY CAUSE BP TO SHOOT UP

The Little Seed with Big Heart Benefits
Dear Doctors Health e-Bulletin reader,
Here's a health tip about a little seed from Peru that could help boost your heart's health. It's called "sacha inchi," and it contains just about the right amount of fatty acids to help keep high cholesterol at bay. Without the essential fatty acids found in a healing food like sacha inchi, you could be struggling to maintain a healthy balance of HDL ("good") cholesterol.
When it comes to essential fatty acids, it's important to remember that there is more than one that you need to get into your diet on a daily basis. While most North Americans are good at getting enough omega-6s (too good, as a matter of fact), they often fall a little short when it comes to omega-3s. As for omega-9s, these important brain foods might also get short-changed.
The thing to remember about fatty acids is that it's not simply enough to get your daily requirement of just one or the other. They really need to be taken in a balanced way in order to have a lasting, positive impact on your body. (For more on this, see our article "Maintain Eye Health by Balancing Your Omegas.")
Sacha inchi is a special seed that can help you to do this. It contains a balance of omega-3s, omega-6s, and omega-9s that work together synergistically to boost the health of your heart. Sacha inchi seems to be blessed with a particular high percentage of omega-3s, which is exactly what you need to zap harmful cholesterol. No other fatty acid can boost heart health the way omega-3 can. And the fact that sacha inchi has omega-6s and -9s to balance out your fatty acid consumption, means that you can absorb all of the omega-3s available.
Researchers recently performed a study to discover the effects of sacha inchi oil on the lipid profiles of patients with hypercholesterolemia. Included in the study were 24 patients between the ages of 35 and 75. The researchers measured total cholesterol, HDL, triglycerides, glucose, non-esterified fatty acids, and insulin levels in the patients. They were then randomized to receive sacha inchi oil orally for four months (in five- or 10-milliliter doses). The oil intake produced a decrease in total cholesterol and a rise in HDL. The subgroup receiving
10 mL showed an increase in insulin levels, too.
In health,
Helen Martyre

Best source of mercury free fish

Live healthy and long

Fish can be source of  Omega 3 fatty acids and DHA.  However, some bigger fish can contain mercury that can be toxic.  After being fed for 58 days, mice fed with fish contaminated with mercury exhibited bizarre behavior.

The wild salmon is better than farmed salmon.  However farmed salmon crowded out the wild Alaskan type salmon (in some NY restaurants, pla2 is being claimed as salmon)  Other best bet are anchovies, sardines, and herring.  Avoid eating fish that are large (high in food chain) for they may be mercury intoxicated.

Featured in this link is the interview of Dr. Mercola with Randy Hartnell, a commercial salmon farmer turned wild salmon fisherman.

Choose your fish diet wisely (and still minimize mercury intake)

Fwd: 3 Fish to Avoid - Large Fish, Farm Raised Fish

3 Fish to Avoid
Published: 7/28/2011

I have long recommended fish as part of a healthy, anti-inflammatory diet. Yesterday's Daily Tip covered my first choices for healthy fish - those rich in omega-3 fatty acids. However, not all fish provide the same benefits, and some species should be limited or avoided altogether. I suggest minimizing your consumption of the following:

1, Large predatory fish. Shark, swordfish, tilefish, king mackerel and white (albacore) tuna may have high levels of mercury. Pregnant women and children are particularly vulnerable to the effects of contaminants, and should avoid these species.

Omega-6 rich fish. Farm-raised tilapia is one of the most highly consumed fish in America, yet it has very low levels of beneficial omega-3s and very high levels of potentially detrimental omega-6 fatty acids. Omega-6 fatty acids are pro-inflammatory, and inflammation is known to cause damage to blood vessels, the heart, lung and joint tissues, skin and the digestive tract.

2.Farmed salmon. Avoid farmed salmon (also called Atlantic salmon), which is what you typically find in supermarkets, restaurants and fish markets. While less expensive than wild salmon, farmed salmon has a less favorable ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 fats and may contain residues of antibiotics and other drugs used to treat diseases in fish farming pens. What's more, levels of PCBs and other contaminants in some farmed salmon have been found to be much higher than those found in wild salmon.

Fwd from Natural News: A daily soda drink Leads to Heart Attacks

The more important news feed here is the effect of soda drink on health.  A soda a day contributes to obesity plus the risk of heart attack.  If this is a zero or mega drink without sugar, (laced with aspartame) then there is even far greater risk.:  cancer.  If this laced with sugar, then the risk is for diabetes.
