Now comes free cancer treatment at Adyar Adyar Cancer Institute is given free; of the 423 beds, 297 or 66% are free.
It was founded on June 18, l954 by Dr Mutulukshmi Reddy. Despite just being in India, it achieved several firsts in cancer treatment:
first nuclear department of oncology in 1956;
pediatric oncology in l960
linacs in 1976
use of hypothermia in 1984
yag laser for microsurgery in l985 and for endoscopic surgery;
rapid arc treatment in 2009 and
M. phil psycho - oncology in 2011
