We are the only creatures on earth who cook their foods – we also exhibit the most disease – while 99.99% of the plant foods on our planet are available in their raw state. In fact, it has been shown that cooking a potato creates over 400 known, unknown, and dangerous compounds!
Eating food that has been cooked above 180 degrees Fahrenheit causes a pathogenic response in the body called leukocytosis whereby the white blood cells (immune cells) are actually used to digest foods much as they would attack foreign substances.
What this means to you is that your body no longer operates as it should when it eats dead foods.

Amy just forwarded me a new study in the journal Nature (Kleinewietfeld, et al. (2013). Nature 496, 518–522.) about processed food that was so fascinating that I just had to share it with you...

A team of scientists from Yale University and the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, in Germany, have scientifically shown that the sodium in processed foods is a STRONG trigger of autoimmune disease.

Obviously, this hit home with me since I have an autoimmune disease myself. And so do hundreds of millions of others who are suffering with Hashimoto's (thyroid), multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, type 1 diabetes, and more.

In fact, AI disorders have increased sharply in the last 50 years and now we're discovering more reasons why.

And get this, according to the study, US fast foods contain more than TWICE the immune-crushing sodium as those same processed foods in other countries!

This present study looked at the role of T helper cells in the body. These cells activate and 'help' other cells to fight dangerous pathogens such as bacteria or viruses and battle infections.

Our SNA students will know that a subset of these cells – known as Th17 cells – also play an important role in the development of autoimmune diseases.

The Yale researchers discovered that exposing these cells in a lab to a table salt solution made them act more 'aggressively.'

They found that mice fed a diet high in refined salts saw a dramatic increase in the number of Th17 cells in their nervous systems that promoted inflammation.

They were also more likely to develop a severe form of a disease associated with multiple sclerosis in humans.

The scientists then conducted a closer examination of these effects at a molecular level and revealed that sodium exposure increased the levels of inflammatory cytokines released by Th17 cells 10 times more than usual.

More inflammation = more health problems!

Now, we have proof that processed foods are not only disgusting but also deadly to our health. And that's the just the sodium content. Just imagine all the other garbage they contain.

At the very minimum please don't fall victim to stupid advertising from chains like Subway or other so-called healthy fast food restaurants. Even if they have low-fat or low sodium items, their foods are still poison and will ruin your health slow but surely.

2.         Calcium. Although Americans eat a lot of calcium-rich foods, including dairy products, we tend to be deficient because our modern diets are too acidic, which reduces the amount of the mineral in our bodies, says nutritionist J.J. Virgin, author of The Virgin Diet Cookbook. She says that beyond protecting bone health, calcium has a calming effect on the nervous system. It’s found in dairy foods, green vegetables and salmon.

Bottom line: Take a 500-mg calcium supplement daily.

3.         Omega-3 fatty acids reduce inflammation that leads to heart disease and cancer. There are three types: EPA and DHA, which you find in fatty fish like salmon and mackerel, and ALA which you get in vegetable oils and walnuts. “Ideally you should be eating three to four servings of wild, cold-water seafood each week,” says Virgin.

Skipping breakfast, or eating a light breakfast may not be your best way to fight obesity.  This was the result of study in Obesity Society'scientific meeting.  Eating a full breakfast, rich in carbohydrate like egg and sausage help curb appetite and over eating.

"Pancakes and toast may not be your best breakfast options if you're trying to lose weight. New research presented this week at The Obesity Society's annual scientific meeting in Atlanta shows that high protein sausage- and egg-based breakfasts curb hunger better than high-carb morning meals or skipping breakfast entirely.

The study, which tested the impact of various types of breakfast in 18- to 55-year-old women, suggest the traditional American diet (which typically includes more protein at dinner and less at breakfast) may be a contributing factor to the nation's obesity crisis.
 

"Eating a breakfast rich in protein significantly improves appetite control and may help women to avoid overeating later in the day," said lead researcher Kevin C. Maki, a scientist with Biofortis Clinical Research, a Mérieux NutriSciences company."

The first breathalyzer that tracks blood sugar, has been introduced to the public in American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists. meeting in San Antonio Texas. It uses nanotechnology that tracks traces of acetone in the breath, which is associated with diabetes.   The current device is about the size of a book and needs further testing before it can be introduced to the public.  There are about 350 million diabetics worldwide who would benefit from the product, ie they do not have to be pricked.

But it needs more testing and calibration.  But one of the things I dislike in being a diabetic is the painful finger pricking.  So I like the system where your thighs and arms are instead pricked and tiny blood amount is used

WEDNESDAY, Nov. 13, 2013 (HealthDay News) -- People with diabetes have to prick their fingers multiple times a day to monitor their blood sugar levels, but researchers report that someday patients may be able to do that simply by checking their breath.
A hand-held device would measure levels of the chemical acetone in someone's breath. Acetone levels rise when blood sugar levels rise, and acetone is responsible for the sweet, fruity smell on the breath of people with diabetes who have high blood sugar levels.
What hasn't yet been proven is whether or not blood sugar levels reliably rise and fall with acetone levels, according to the study's lead researcher, Ronny Priefer, a professor of medicinal chemistry at Western New England University in Springfield, Mass.
"If we can successfully show that there is a linear correlation between acetone levels and blood glucose [sugar] levels, the ease of which an individual with diabetes can monitor their disease state should be dramatically simplified," Priefer said.
He added that a simple breath test to measure blood sugar levels might help patients better manage their disease, too, because it won't hurt like a finger prick to get the information needed to guide treatment decisions.
Results of the study were scheduled to be presented Wednesday at the annual meeting of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists, held in San Antonio, Texas.
People with either type 1 or type 2 diabetes have to measure their blood sugar levels to monitor how well treatments are working. Blood sugar checks are especially important for people with type 1 diabetes, an autoimmune disease that always requires treatment with insulin. People with type 1 diabetes may check their blood sugar levels as many as six or more times a day, according to JDRF (formerly the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation).
People with type 2 diabetes who use insulin also need to check their blood sugar levels more frequently than those who don't use insulin. For those dependent on insulin, a blood sugar check tells them whether or not they need more insulin, and helps guide the decision on how much insulin is needed.
Priefer and his colleagues developed a hand-held device that uses layers of a film that react with acetone to quantify the amount of acetone present in breath samples.
Right now, the breathalyzer is about the size of a book. The researchers are working to make the device smaller, so that it's similar to what's used by the police to measure blood alcohol levels. Priefer said that would make it about the size of a large coffee mug.
He said they have two clinical trials planned for 2014 to see if the levels of acetone go up linearly with a rise in blood sugar levels.
Priefer said he expects that the researchers will find that certain foods may affect the readings. And, of course, the presence of acetone in the environment would affect readings. So, if someone had just removed nail polish with an acetone-based remover, that would affect the readings.
"The ultimate goal is to replace the finger prick," he said. However, he said it remains to be seen whether the blood sugar measurements will be accurate enough to guide insulin dosing, or if the technology might just be useful for people with type 2 diabetes who don't use insulin.
One diabetes expert said he was glad to see treatment innovations but didn't think this one would be appropriate for all patients.
"I'm happy to learn that there are novel things in technology in development. But, the relationship between acetone and blood sugar isn't always one to one," said Dr. Joel Zonszein, director of the clinical diabetes center at Montefiore Medical Center, in New York City.
"People can have high blood sugars with low acetone, and low blood sugars with high acetone," Zonszein said. "I don't think acetone will be a good way of managing blood sugars, at least not for people with type 1 diabetes, where they really need very precise numbers to know how much insulin to give. It may be a help for people with type 2 diabetes, who aren't taking insulin."

I had earlier made posts on this regarding HFCS, and artificial sweeteners.  Dr. Mercola has been vocal against aspartame and  other artificial sweeteners.  I have been an avid drinker of 0 diet drinks, but after reading Mercola, I avoided the 0 drink because I may end being 0.   I will have a student whose job is a manufacturing official of this softdrink company.  I have believed that this emerging trend in healthy living is an ecosystem that old manufacturer must consider.  It is a part of external environment that impacts their sales, and outcomes, and must not ignore this

The post mentions about a lady who was on verge of serious illness, and was sent an article by the author, Rhonda Gessner, about the serious side effect of aspartame.  When she stopped drinking the softdrink, the diet soda,  after only 32 hours, she stopped having the convulsion

The diet drinks have been linked to patients with lupus, or multiple sclerosis.

Sodium and aspartame makes you crave for more carbohydates (therefore are not diet products) 

Aspartame is neurotoxic, and contains formaldehyde which are preservative of human flesh in embalming

Systemic lupus has become almost as rampant as multiple sclerosis, especially with Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi drinkers. The victim usually does not know that the Aspartame is the culprit. He or she continues it’s use; irritating the lupus to such a degree that it may become a life-threatening condition. We have seen patients with systemic lupus become asymptotic, once taken off diet sodas.

STOP drinking diet sodas and be alert for Aspartame on food labels! Many products are fortified with it! This is a serious problem. Dr. Espart (one of my speakers) remarked that so many people seem to be symptomatic for MS and during his recent visit to a hospice; a nurse stated that six of her friends, who were heavy Diet Coke addicts, had all been diagnosed with MS. This is beyond coincidence!
Diet soda is NOT a diet product! It is a chemically altered, multiple SODIUM (salt) and ASPARTAME containing product that actually makes you crave carbohydrates.
It is far more likely to make you GAIN weight!
These products also contain formaldehyde, which stores in the fat cells, particularly in the hips and thighs. Formaldehyde is an absolute toxin and is used primarily to preserve ’tissue specimens.’
Many products we use every day contain this chemical but we SHOULD NOT store it IN our body!
Dr. H. J. Roberts stated in his lectures that once free of the ‘diet products’ and with no significant increase in exercise; his patients lost an average of 19 pounds over a trial period. Aspartame is especially dangerous for diabetics. We found that some physicians, who believed that they had a patient with retinopathy, in fact, had symptoms caused by Aspartame. The Aspartame drives the blood sugar out of control. Thus diabetics may suffer acute memory loss due to the fact that aspartic acid and phenylalanine are NEUROTOXIC when taken without the other amino acids necessary for a good balance.
Treating diabetes is all about BALANCE.. Especially with diabetics, the Aspartame passes the blood/brain barrier and it then deteriorates the neurons of the brain; causing various levels of brain damage, Seizures, Depression, Manic depression, Panic attacks, Uncontrollable anger and rage. Consumption of Aspartame causes these same symptoms in non-diabetics as well. Documentation and observation also reveal that thousands of children diagnosed with ADD and ADHD have had complete turnarounds in their behavior when these chemicals have been removed from their diet.
So called ‘behavior modification prescription drugs’ (Ritalin and others) are no longer needed. Truth be told, they were never NEEDED in the first place!  Most of these children were being ‘poisoned’ on a daily basis with the very foods that were ‘better for them than sugar. ‘It is also suspected that the Aspartame in thousands of pallets of diet Coke and diet Pepsi consumed by men and women fighting in the Gulf War, may be partially to blame for the well-known Gulf War Syndrome.
Dr. Roberts warns that it can cause birth defects, i.e. mental retardation, if taken at the time of conception and during early pregnancy. Children are especially at risk for neurological disorders and should NEVER be given artificial sweeteners.
There are many different case histories to relate of children suffering grand mal seizures and other neurological disturbances talking about a plague of neurological diseases directly caused by the use of this deadly poison.’
Herein lies the problem: There were Congressional Hearings when Aspartame was included in 100 different products and strong objection was made concerning its use. Since this initial hearing, there have been two subsequent hearings, and still nothing has been done. The drug and chemical lobbies have very deep pockets.

Deadly aspartame



Aspartame is a crystalline protein that is derived from two amino acids: phenylalanine and aspartic acid.

The FDA refers to aspartame as a food additive, never a drug. A drug on the label of a Diet-Coke might discourage the consumer.

Since aspartame is classified as a food additive, adverse reactions are not reported to the FDA (Food and Drug Administration).



Characteristics

Aspartame is 200-300 times sweeter than sugar. Just as sugar, it has its list of adverse reactions and side effects, which include:
  • Anxiety
  • ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder)
  • Candida Albicans (yeast infections)
  • Obesity
  • Headaches
  • Hyperactivity
  • Tooth decay, and
  • Diabetes
The list of adverse reactions and side effects include, but is not limited to:
  • Brain lesions
  • Headaches
  • Mood alterations
  • Skin polyps
  • Blindness
  • Brain tumors
  • Insomnia
  • Depression
  • Various cancers, and
  • Short-term memory loss
Aspartame is economically cheaper and sweeter than sugar, which is very appealing to soda beverage companies. It is also very appealing to weight watchers who are seeking to lose weight because of its low calories.


Aspartame Converts to Formaldehyde

What most diet soda beverage drinkers don't know, is that aspartame, once inside the human body, converts into formaldehyde!

Biological and medical knowledge lets us know that the natural human body temperature is 98.6, which means that any time you consume a substance made with aspartame, the aspartame in those substances is going to convert into formaldehyde as a chemical by-product.

Aspartame is found in over 1,200 food products as a so-called food additive, including diet soda beverages, chewing gum, non-dairy creamer, and candy. It is most popularly referred to as Nutra-Sweet.


Alternatives

One would be wise to get off of all synthetic sweeteners such as Splenda, Equal, Nutra-Sweet, sucrose (white table sugar), and brown sugar. Instead, there are many natural sweeteners that curb the craving without the negative side effects, such as:

  • Agave nectar
  • Stevia (plant, should be green)
