Intermittent fasting is beneficial to your health

Live healthy and long

From Dr Mercola fitness archives  | January 2013

Skipping meal, intermittent fasting can lead to good health and longevity.  Thus says Dr. Michael Mosley on the said topic.  Eat normally for 5 days and fast for 2 days (eating l/4 of your normal food intake, say 600 calories for men and 500 calories for women)  Such fasting does not only have religious bearing (as form of penitence) but contributes to health and longevity:

Some benefits:

1.  Normalizing the gherlin level - the hunger hormone;

2.  Promoting HGH (human growth hormone) and thus stops aging

3   Lowers triglyceride levels

4.  Reduces inflammation and free radical damage

5.  Normalizes leptin and insulin sensitivity;  such loss of insensitivity leads to chronic diseases like diabetes heart disease and even cancer

Did You Know...

...that a versatile Peruvian superfood boosts energy, libido and sexual function, improves fertility, and balances hormones?

There's a superfood found deep in the Andean mountains of Bolivia and Peru that is so potent, it fueled the Incans with the inexhaustible stamina to build Machu Picchu, conquer neighboring peoples, and run the largest empire of their time.  Cultivated in Peru for at least 3000 years, Maca is a powdered root from the Lepidium meyenii plant.

Maca is often referred to as "Peruvian ginseng" because it boosts energy, libido, and sexual function.  Although only a few scientific studies have examined the health benefits of maca, empirical evidence strongly suggests that this root plant helps treat the symptoms of...

  •   Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)
  •   PMS
  •   Infertility
  •   Menopause
  •   Sexual Dysfunction, including ED
  •   Anemia
  •   Hormonal Imbalances
  •   Osteoporosis
  •   Depression
  •   Leukemia and Stomach Cancer
  •   HIV/AIDS
  •   Tuberculosis

Made up of 31 different minerals—including iron, potassium, magnesium, calcium and iodine—and 60 different phytonutrients, maca is an extraordinary tonic for overall health and wellness.

Spice Up Your Sex Life

A natural aphrodisiac, maca is perhaps best known for its ability to enhance sexual performance and libido.  BMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine published a 2010 report in which 2 studies showed that maca exhibited positive effects on sexual desire and function in healthy men and postmenopausal women.

Another study published 2 years prior in CNS Neuroscience & Therapeutics found that maca increases performance and desire in depressed individuals who show signs of sexual dysfunction due to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs)—a class of drug used to treat depression.

With no side effects, maca is a safe natural alternative to libido—enhancing drugs.

Fortify Your Fertility Efforts

Maca is rich in glucosinolates, a chemical compound that affects both male and female fertility.  Maca comes in three colors: red, yellow and black.  Black maca appears to have a significant effect on sperm count.  In one study, 9 men supplemented with gelatinized maca (1500-3000 mg per day) for 4 months.  Their semen volume, sperm count, and sperm motility significantly increased without affecting serum levels of testosterone or estrodial.  The men also experienced decreased anxiety and stress, lower blood pressure, and balanced iron levels.

Maca also helps control estrogen levels in women.  If estrogen levels are out of balance, infertility and miscarriage can be problematic.  Maca has also been shown to increase progesterone levels, which can become dangerously low when estrogen levels are excessive.  Normalized progesterone levels are essential for a healthy pregnancy.

By regulating hormones, maca can also alleviate depression and anxiety and stabilize moods.  A 2008 study published in the journal Menopause indicated that 3.5 grams of daily powdered maca helped lower anxiety and depression in post-menopausal women.

Adding Maca to Your Diet

Whether you want to increase your potency, improve your fertility, stabilize your hormones, or enhance your athletic performance, maca is a safe and effective addition to your daily diet.

It's one of the most popular powders to add to smoothies, but if you aren't a smoothie fan you can eat the root baked, roasted, prepared as a soup, or fermented as a beverage called maca chica.  Maca is also available in pill or liquid extract form.

Improve your energy naturally and say goodbye to caffeine jitters and crashes with a daily dose of maca!

How To Escape the Molecule That Attacks from Within

Discover How This New Medical Breakthrough Can Bring Back Your Dietary Freedom and End Your Digestive Woes... Fatigue... Boost Immunity... and Break the "Fat Signal"

Nearly 40% of older Americans (and more each year) suffer from gastric concerns such as persistent bloating and digestive discomfort... and occasional discomfort.  The problem?  A "hidden molecule" that attacks from within, causing health havoc.  The identification of this molecule is being hailed by integrative doctors as worthy of the Nobel Prize due to the way it could revolutionize your health.

First, though, let me explain how this hidden molecule harms your health—and how gluten intolerance or sensitivity is increasingly common, and its destructive symptoms even more difficult to identify.  That's why many doctors simply suggest cutting out wheat and dairy to see if you feel better.  However, going "gluten free" doesn't bring relief for many people.

Neither does adding probiotics or digestive enzymes solve the problem—even though these are the supplements most commonly recommended to combat digestive distress.  That's because this "hidden molecule" is pervasive throughout the Standard American Diet (SAD).  Meanwhile, undiagnosed digestive problems can unleash much larger problems down the road, as digestive health is paramount to the health and function of critical systems through the body.

But recently, scientists made a breakthrough by identifying the exact molecule proven to cause countless gastric problems.  This discovery offers dietary freedom and relief from digestive concerns for millions of sufferers.

Completely Natural Approach With No Side Effects

Pinpointing the dietary invader that causes gastric problems led quickly to the relief: a completely natural remedy that captures this digestive invader and knocks it out, with no harmful side effects.  After just a few shorts weeks of therapy, people—even those with the most persistent conditions—experienced outstanding benefits against...

Digestive problems, bloating, gas, and gastric discomfort
Food sensitivities—from gluten and grains to nuts and dairy
      Blood sugar balance
      Skin rashes and acne outbreaks
      Inexplicable weight gain and cravings
      Low energy, especially after eating
      Joint discomfort and muscle stiffness
      Compromised immune function
      Blood pressure and heart health

Mystery Exposed

The root cause of these persistent health problems is a single molecule present in nearly every food we eat.  Ironically, this molecule was once thought totally harmless!  It was even used medicinally as a blood coagulant.  But now science has confirmed a surprising link between this molecule and major digestive trouble.

     The molecule is called lectin.

The term "lectin" was introduced in 1954 by scientists William C. Boyd and Elizabeth Shapleigh.  Lectins are found in fruits, vegetables, seafood, grains, beans, and seeds.  Gluten is a huge source of lectin—which means lectins are jam-packed into foods such as breads, cereals, and many other processed foods.  Other major lectin sources are corn, milk, soy, and peanuts.

It's no wonder food sensitivities and digestive chaos are skyrocketing!  The American diet is almost completely dependent on gluten and corn-based processed foods, all loaded with lectins.

     Lectins are the problem!

Setting Off a Cascade of Trouble Within

Lectins start trouble as they enter our intestinal tract.  That's because these molecules attach themselves to the sugars found naturally in healthy cells.  It works like this: Most cells have membranes that contain carbohydrates.  And as food passes through our digestive system, lectins latch onto cells that line our intestines and colon.

Unfortunately, once latched on, lectins disrupt and damage cells.  In response to the damage, your immune system kicks in, sending white blood cells rushing in to deal with the problem.  In other words, lectins attack your body... and your body attacks back.  These attacks can lead to cell destruction.  Even worse, your immune system can become overloaded, leading to serious issues.

A cascade of problems is now unleashed throughout your entire digestive system, spreading out to your skin, muscles, joints, and even your heart.

A Simple Disguise Can Trick a Complex Invader

To solve the problem of lectins—which are found in almost every food you eat—researchers tried a simple experiment.  What if lectins could be diverted by a flood of "decoy sugars?"  Could the "decoy sugars" get between lectin and the body's own cells?

The answer was yes, and the secret is "sacrificial" sugars.  When a supplement containing a combination of 5 "sacrificial sugars" is taken with meals, lectins are disabled.  Instead of attacking your intestine and colon walls, the lectins hitch a ride on the sacrificial sugars and pass harmlessly through your body.

For patients, the effect of these sacrificial sugars was almost immediate.  With just a few doses incorporated into meals, lectins were vastly eliminated from the digestive tract.

Break the Lectin Fat Signal

Sacrificial sugars can also break lectin's ability to stimulate fat cell production.  That's right, unfortunately, lectin also makes you fat.  According to a report in the peer-reviewed journal Neuropeptides, lectin from wheat, corn, peas, potatoes, and lentils binds to insulin hormone receptors, and triggers them to stimulate fat production.  That's why so many of us with gastric problems also suffer from inexplicable cravings and sudden weight gain.  It's paradoxical but true: by introducing these 5 decoy sugars, you can break the weight gain signal right at its source.

Flush Out Lectins and Even Neutralize Nasty Gluten

Since gluten is also a lectin, the sacrificial sugars that flush out lectin also protect you from "hidden gluten" in processed foods, sauces, medicines, and even cosmetics.  Protecting yourself from the lectin-soaked American diet comes with long-term health benefits, because eliminating lectin helps to...

  • Promote weight loss through improved metabolism and energy
  • Restore proper water balance in your body
  • Soothe those occasionally achy joints, muscles and organs
  • Balance inflammation and improve immune function
  • Repair your digestive tract and keep it healthy
  • Facilitate healthy detoxification in your liver and gut

A "Lectin Force Field" Between You and Lectins Everywhere

You could try to follow a diet that severely limits your intake of lectins.  But lectins are everywhere—not just in foods, but in the environment, too.  Since lectins are prevalent in the plant world, you can be exposed to them just by walking on the grass... inhaling pollen in the air... or spending time in your garden.  Lectins even lurk in medicines... cosmetics... vitamins... and nutritional supplements.

But you don't have to live in a bubble to stay away from lectins.  Research shows you can create a virtual lectin force field to help protect your gut.  Since 70% of your immune system is located in your gut, this lectin force field can enhance your total immune health, long-term.  Renowned integrative physician Dr. Michael Cutler—with 18 years of experience in digestive health and natural medicine, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue—says the discovery of lectin protection deserves nothing short of a Nobel Prize!  Click here to access the details on this natural breakthrough, so you can protect yourself and your family from the molecule that attacks from within.

Adinopectin the new fat burning hormone

Live healthy and long

From Real Dose Nutrition

Recent studies have shown that adeponectin, one of the groups of adipokinese (hormones coming from fats) show much promise.  It reduces appetite and above all burns fats.

What happened to  leptin?  Leptin does not seem to work with obese people who seem to develop resistance. People does not develop resistance to adenopectin.

With adenopectin, there is outright deficiency. Adenopectin helps body fuel muscle cells.  Lack of adenopectin makes it hard to burn fats. The drawback is that as people goes fat, the level of adenopectin drops (unlike leptin when fat levels go up leptin goes up to reduce appetite and burn fat)

Scientists are working hard to induce adenopectin and it seems that intermittent fasting wokrs. Read more at Real Dose Nutrition.

What does the Leptin post mean to you?

Live healthy and long

The Leptin post on this blog may not have sunk to many - what it means to many diet food, exercises and being marketed intensively and which many go for spending huge sums of money.

For example, if you have liposuction, would you have a permanent weight or fat loss?

Absolutely not.  When you have liposuction, your fat level goes down, the leptin likewise goes down, you regain appetite, you gain weight, your metabolism decreases,  and you are back to square one.  You again have liposuction and the whole process repeats.  What a waste of effort and money.  So you see some celebs fall for this.

Or you enroll in a crash diet or exercise.  So you see why the whole system is rigged against you the consumer ie to take away your hard earned money.

The role of Leptin in weight loss

Live healthy and long

From nutritionwonderland

We should understand the role of leptin on appetite and weight loss.  It the singlemost important hormone that regulates our hunger and energy level.  When leptin level increase, it signals our brain that we are full and we stop eating;  when it decreases, leptin orders the body appetite to increase and eat.

Leptin is produced by our adipose tissues;  thus fat people have more leptin.

If you lose a lot of fat via liposuction or via crash diet, your leptin level fall and your craving to eat is stimulated.  Thus crash diet or liposuction will not make you slim;  the effect will be temporary.

Leptin resistance.  High fatty diet and high fructose diet stimulate leptin resistance.  Thus even if leptin levels are high, eating and craving continues.

Some advice:

l.  Have plenty of sleep (leptin levels increase while sleeping)

2.  Avoid sugar; ( to avoid leptin sensitivity)

3.  Eat plenty of Omega 3 fish oil (they increase leptin sensitivity.  It was found out that people eating salmon had higher leptin levels.) and thus were less fat.

Diabetes may be cured by diet and exercise; why was generic version of Actos approved in USA

Live healthy and long

From Dr. Mercola Magazine September 6, 2012

Actos and Pioglitazone, two noted anti diabetic drugs with severe side effects have been given go signal for the generic version for distribution.  Mylan labs was given this green light to make the anti diabetic drug affordable to more Americans.  However these drugs were banned in France and Germany for increased bladder risk.

For starter, Actos has boxed warning that says that it may cause or worsen heart failure. Actos is thought to be safer than Avandia which has 43% risk of heart attack, and  64 % of cardio vascular death.  What deadly drugs.

Dr Helen Ge, who worked for Takeda filed lawsuit her former employer alleged that she was asked to prepare watered down report on the safety of Actos.  It is more dangerous than it is now;  connected to suicide, schizoprenia, heart attacks and stroke, renal failure and homicidal ideation.

Most anti diabetes drug works by tricking the body to become sensitive to their insulin.  If the tricking is pursued long enough, it has devastating effect on the body.

Diabetes is actually caused by  faulty leptin and insulin signalling that can be corrected by diet and exercise.

What are the cheap cures for diabetes:

l.  Severly limit sugar and high glycemic index food ;

2.  Exercise regularly

3. Avoid synthetic transfat;

4.  Take plenty of Vit D and Omega 3 oil

5.  Optimize intestinal flora with biotics and probiotics, or reseed with fermented foods
