Dr. Kent Brantley's blood as vaccine vs Ebola
Rizal Philippines | October 17, 2014
On one hand there is a reason to be scared; 9000 have been infected and death has surpassed 4,000. 1,000 cases are reported weekly and WHO predicts this to be high as 10,000 weekly, and cases could reach as high as 1.4 million by January 2015.
Remember, the first case was reported in Guinea last December 2013. There were only 2 deaths out of 59 in Guinea last March.
Senegal and Nigeria now Ebola free?
At the same time Nigeria and Senegal would have passed the 42 days timeline to be declared Ebola free.
Doctors without Borders (MSF - Medicins Sans Frontieres spokesperson Minie Nikolai in a TV interview said that their group handled 2,500 cases in 700 bed field hospitals but 900 walked away Ebola free. It means to say Ebola can be fought and controlled.
Strict observance of protocol
According to Nikolai, with their experience and long years of exposure to the disease, the key is strict adherence to protocol. One mistake and you are dead. Thus they make sure that as procedures are being observed, there are personnel watching one another.
This did not happen in the case of Thomas Duncan, a LIberian who died in a Texas hospital. And so with the two nurses who were subsequently infected.
Thus cant travel ban from West African be imposed?
Cant health workers who attend to Ebola patients be quarantined
There are survivors like Drs. Nancy Winterbol and Dr Kent Brantley (from Foxnews) who donated blood for transportation to Ebola infected nurse in USA.
