Concerns raised on face to face classes, monkey pox, and dengue

Live healthy and long

Citizens have to face 3 fold concerns over 3 health issues:    face to face classes, monkey pox, and more cases of dengue.

1.  For covid 19, cases are rising and projected to be as high as 10,000 in October
2.  There is all ready a monkey pox case in the Philippines   Elsewhere in the world as in USA, there has been an increase in the number of cases
3.   An alarm has been raised over the increase in number of dengue and deaths from the said disease.  It seems to be reching an epidemic status

But #1 is sure is a great concern.  More infectious strains are spreading, And surely face to face classes are superspreader events.   While we try to revive the economy 10,000 cases per day is worrisome.

In Japan and South Korea, there has been an upsurge in the number of cases.  In Jpan, it was as high as more than 100,000 cases per day.

Rethinking on face to face classes at this point   The children are very vulnerable because most of them are  unvaccinated

Which is deadlier ? #Ebola or H fever (#dengue)

Live healthy and long

Philippines   | October 27, 2014

Dengue was first reported in 1950s in Philippines and Thailand

So far there are 10,000 reported cases of Ebola in West Africa.  So far 4,500 have died.  This is the number since March of 2014.

Compare that to the number of dengue cases in the Philippines - there were 42, 207 cases from January 193 being fatal.

Worldwide:

The incidence of dengue has grown dramatically around the world in recent decades. Over 2.5 billion people – over 40% of the world's population – are now at risk from dengue. WHO currently estimates there may be 50–100 million dengue infections worldwide every year.

Cases across the Americas, South-east Asia and Western Pacific have exceeded 1.2 million cases in 2008 and over 2.3 million in 2010 (based on official data submitted by Member States). Recently the number of reported cases has continued to increase. In 2013, 2.35 million cases of dengue were reported in the Americas alone, of which 37 687 cases were severe dengue.
Not only is the number of cases increasing as the disease spreads to new areas, but explosive outbreaks are occurring. The threat of a possible outbreak of dengue fever now exists in Europe and local transmission of dengue was reported for the first time in France and Croatia in 2010 and imported cases were detected in three other European countries. In 2012, an outbreak of dengue on Madeira islands of Portugal resulted in over 2000 cases and imported cases were detected in 10 other countries in Europe apart from mainland Portugal.
(Dengue and Ebola are both level 4 diseases:  fatal usually and no known cures.  Only strong body resistance can halt its morbidity;  both are hemorrhagic)

We should be more worried about dengue, and other mosquito borne diseases.  About a million die annually from mosquito bites making it the deadliest animal on earth

About 390 million are infected by mosquitoes, with 500,000 of them developing into dengue; 25,000 deaths result form dengue

#Citronella oil vs dengue - 1st case of dengue reported in Japan after 60 years

Live healthy and long

Rizal Philippines   | August 30, 2014

For the first time ever, Japan reported case of dengue. (From Washington post - 1st case of dengue in Japan after 40 years )  Worldwide the estimate for dengue infection is between 50 to 100 million. WHOs estimate is at 390 million.   That is a large number.  Many nations are clueless on how to eradicate combat dengue.

I had my yard planted to Citronella and I think it is useful in controlling mosquitoes and other household pests

Here is an article from Cymbopogon genus plant (it is related to the lemon grass)  The Mercola article does not seem to distinguish between the Lemon grass and the citronell grassa because both seem to be used for flavoring and aromatherapy

Citronella oil + vanillin provides 3 hours of protection vs mosquitoes, comparable to the protection provided by chemical mosquito repellent DEET.

3,000 cases of dengue reported in northeastern Mindanao

Live healthy and long

Angono, Rizal Philipppines  I  August 25, 2014

From AFPRIM

More than 3,000 cases of dengue have been reported in Northeastern Mindanao at region XIII or otherwise known as Caraga Region consisting of 4 provinces:  Agusan del Norte and Sur,  Surigao del Norte and Sur.  Dengue is a mosquito borne disease and is also a hemorrhagic fever just like Ebola.

While the rest of the world are alarmed over Ebola (where there are only 2,000 cases; we should be equally alarmed at this high incidence of dengue.

Dengue can be controlled by controlling the breeding places of mosquitoes and even planting citronella grass which are plentiful and can be had for free.

Who estimates that there are about 50 to 100 million dengue infections a year worldwide.  An Oxford study estimates this to be very much higher 390 million a year.

The health care industry definitely had demand for workers in this field of study. (But is likely to be avoided being very deadly)

Thus the deadliest animal (born to kill) is still what?  Mosquitoes.  Deaths from mosquito bite is conservatively estimated to be  a million  a year.   Snake bites do not come close.  (about 50,000  a year)  Deaths from sharks is under l00 a year.

Counter measure vs dengue

Live healthy and long

Dengue has reached epidemic proportions in Singapore lately (as is was in the PHL before) However, there are grasses that repel mosquitoes. Aside from controlling the breeding ground, this grass, Citronella seems to be very effective in warding off mosquitoes.  There are no mosquitoes in my house and yard since I bought this grass for 50  php.  Why dont you try it.?

It is natural cheap and is not harmful like DEET

It closely resembles the aromatic lemon grass.

Does Singapore want to import this grass from me by the container load?

Dengue on the rise at Singapore; what could be the cheap countermeasure?

Live healthy and long

 Rizal, Philippines  | September 7, 2013

I just learned from Asia News that dengue is on the rise at Singapore. (Dengue fever cases in Singapore tops 12,000) Despite advances in the standard of living at Singapore, they have not been spared from this dreaded disease that has no known cure.  This killed many Filipinos several years back.

Before, only children fell ill to dengue;  but it has mutated and now afflicts adults.

Maybe the DOH in the Philippines has done a good job of controlling the disease, from controlling the breeding of mosquitoes use of natural insect repellents.

There is a natural insect repellent made from Citronella oil that is safer than the Western made DEET mosquito repellent.  (Bug Shield by Human Nature)

Elsewhere, there are posts here that suggest the use of Citronella grass  (Cimbopogon nardus ) planted in the yards, planted in pots placed in houses to repel dengue carrying mosquitoes.  For me, this strategy works  -  no more mosquitoes in our house.  Isnt this amazing?

May we suggest this to Singapore scientists/health officials?
