Blood Thinner Antidote Stops Dangerous Bleeding: Study  November 18, 2013

From Empr - Boehringer Ingleheim announces antidote to Praxada

The blood thinner Praxada also known as dabigatran, a well known used drug vs strokes in patients with atrial fibrillation,  has no known antidote that prevents serious bleeding.  This drug is being produced by privately held company Boehringer Ingleheim.

Praxada is a replacement for half century old blood thinner warfarin but which is more difficult to manage.  Two other drugs similar to Praxada - Xarelto from J & J and Bayer,  and Eliquis from Bristol Mayers Squibb; as effective as warfarin and easier to manage.

The antidote consist of protein from monoclonal body that sweeps Praxada. There were volunteers given IV of the antidote, after 4 days therapy of Praxada.  At the end of infusion, there was complete reversal of the blood thinning effect of Praxada.

The results were shown at the annual scientific session of the American Heart Association in Dallas Texas.
