Boost Your Brain With Blueberries (How about blackberries - duhat)

From Natural Health Insiders
                        Image: Blueberries in an hourglass

Drinking 200 mg of blueberries according to this post, maintained memory and concentration.  Those who did not take the smoothies, concentration fell by 15 to 20%.  The reason behind this is phytonutrients.  Thus Noni juice's phytonutrients improve memory of those who drink this.

From Natural Insiders how to save your brain

Some of important tips and advice:

1.  Get full night's sleep;

2. What is good for your guts is good for your brain;  take probiotics; (there is such thing as a gut brain)

3.  Avoid NSAID and antibiotics;

4.  Take these foods:   turmeric, Omega 3 fatty oils,

5.  Floss or you lose your brain. Maintain healthy gums and teeth (this is understandable.   Bacterias in your teeth can affect your brain.

Anemia causes/linked to dementia?

Live healthy and long

Repost from Newsmax health | August 1, 2013

This seems to be an inconclusive report.  It says that women with anemia do not develop such symptoms.  (2,500 sample)  However for males, those who had anemia, 23% developed dementia, those who are not anemic, 17% developed dementia.  The study was made by Dr. Kristine Yaff of dept of psychiatry at University of California.  However, the risk of developing dementia remained at 50% after discounting after factors.

The relationship is due to the fact that RBC delivers oxygen and nutrients to the brain, and the brain consumes 70% of the oxygen and nutrients used by the body.

Help your gut in 7 seconds; Bs beat back dementia; Hole in joint science solved

Something BAD is hiding in your intestines -- But you can help fix it in just 7 seconds a day...

If you suffer from occasional gas, bloating, indigestion or digestive discomfort -- there IS something you can do about it...

When my patients come to me with these kinds of complaints, there's one simple secret I rely on to give unbeatable digestive support -- and it can do the same for you...

Not only do my patients swear by this digestive support secret -- I use it myself. And now, you can too. See how it works, right here...

Common vitamins beat dementia

I'll take Mother Nature over Big Pharma any day -- and once again, she's delivered where the drug industry has failed: A breakthrough new study confirms that ordinary B vitamins can fight dementia by slowing the physical damage in the brain that accompanies the disease.

That's not just good news. That's life-changing news for the millions of seniors facing the ravages of cognitive decline.

But if you think Big Pharma is going to throw in the towel and recommend vitamins, you just don't know them very well.

As I write this, they're working on a way to sell B vitamins as a drug -- and you can bet it'll cost a small fortune to get your hands on it when they eventually ram it through the FDA approvals process.

The good news is, you don't have to wait for this "drug" and you certainly don't have to shell out big money to get it when it does reach the market -- because you can get the same doses of brain-protecting B vitamins used in the research from your local vitamin shop right now.

And it'll cost you just pennies a day.

I have so much more to share with you on the breakthrough science every senior needs to read -- including the exact doses I recommend -- coming up in the July issue of my Health Revelations newsletter.

Subscribers, you can expect to find it in your mailbox in the coming weeks. Not a subscriber? Sign up here and beat the drug industry at its own game.

While you wait for that issue to arrive, there are other steps you can take right now to protect your brain, starting with ordinary exercise. It's the single best way to improve circulation -- and if any part of your body depends on good circulation as much as your heart, it's your brain.

Once you start to work out, your risk of dementia could plunge by more than a third, according to a recent study.

And of course, don't forget the role of diet here.

Despite what you may have heard elsewhere, a low-fat diet simply isn't the best way to protect your brain. Your brain actually depends on fat -- especially the healthy fats found in fish and olive oil.

That's why a new study in the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry finds that older people who stick to a Mediterranean diet rich in these healthy fats have higher scores on mental tests and a lower risk of brain impairment and dementia than dieters who go low-fat.

The Mediterranean diet also has more food choices and better food choices -- and you won't walk around feeling hungry all the time like you do when you try a low-fat diet.

And if that's not enough of an incentive to give it a try, this delicious diet can also protect your heart and prevent stroke. (Learn more here.)

Finally, remember that many cases of dementia may not be dementia at all. Everything from drug side effects to metals exposure can cause or mimic cognitive decline -- which is why it's essential to visit a holistic physician who can run tests to help find the real cause of your memory problems.

In many cases, these "non-dementia dementias" can be treated and even reversed.

God bless,

Dr. Mark Stengler

Common drugs in new dementia link
It's a mistake millions of people make each day: They assume a drug is safe simply because it's common or available over the counter. Exercise - Yoga and Strength Training good for aging people

Live healthy and long

From Dr. Mercola fitness | May 17 2013

Many senior Americans do not get enough exercise (or visit the gym)

I met a senior citizen today who said he is joining a triathlon.  I cant now.  I hate the swimming part.  But I can do the bike and the running part.

The seniors can do strength training, high intensity interval training or engage in yoga.

Benefits of exercise are:

l. Improved sleep;

2.  Preventing falls and fractures;

3.  Improved mood and mental health;

4.  Reducing risk of medical condition as heart disease, dementia, Type 2 diabetes depression, cancer and other types of premature death

It is never too late to exercise.  I have seen plenty of senior citizen and converse with them, over 60 who can still bike up Antipolo and are very strong (ehem like me)

Dementia care costs more than cancer or heart disease expenses in USA

Live healthy and long

From Newsmaxhealth | April 4, 2013

Cancer and heart disease cause the most deaths in US, but it is dementia that takes a toll on health care expenses.  It is not about drugs or medical expenses, but the help to get the patients cope up with the debility. Costs are as much as $157 to 215 billion according to the Rand study.

There are as many as 4.1 million sufferers much lower than the 5 million initial estimate from the Alzheimer Association.  Alzheimer is a form of dementia and is the 6th leading cause fo death in US

Direct costs for dementia:  medicine and nursing is $109 billion, vs $102 billion for heart disease and $77 billion for cancer.  What is worrisome is the greying of USA - there is growing number of aging people.

The good news here is that VCO has been found to be good vs Alzheimer and that statins should be avoided to lessen incidence of Alzheimer.

Use of beta blockers reduced risk of dementia

Live healthy and long

From Newsmax health

In the Honolulu study reported by Dr. Lon White at Pacific Health Research and Education Institute, those who took anti hypertensive drugs known as beta blocker:   propanololo, atenolol, and metopronol did not have damages from demenetia and Alzheimers.   Surely the lower blood pressure offered as protection for the brain of the subjects.  Less damages were visible after the autopsy

The study involved 774 men in a study that covers the period 1991 to 2012 and who had ages 71 to 93.  Those who took the beta blocker had less fewer lesions than those who took other blood pressure lowering drugs.

The study cant be conclusive owing to the small number of sample...

More studyneeded.

Science Finally Proves It:
Prayer Changes Your Brain
in 4 Astonishing Ways . . .

Dear Reader,
Millions of Americans believe prayer works. Yet the mainstream media tends to avoid the subject altogether.
But our Mind Health Report team at Newsmax Health wanted answers to questions like these:
  1. Can modern science explain prayer?
  2. Does praying strengthen your brain and prevent mental decline?
  3. What benefits, if any, does prayer offer you — physically, mentally, and emotionally?
To this end, the team went out to the scientific and medical community to learn the potential benefits of prayer — and what they found both surprised and excited all of us here at The Mind Health Report.
The results were so startling, in fact, we created a FREE video presentation to share with you exactly what we discovered.
When you watch this FREE video, you'll discover how prayer actually changes four distinct areas of your brain. In fact, you'll see exactly how prayer or other spiritual practices increase activity in the areas of your brain that are most helpful to you, and diminish activity in areas that are less helpful — or even harmful.
You'll also see:
  • How a specific amount of "prayer time" per day can help prevent memory loss, mental decline, and even dementia or Alzheimer's . . .
  • The #1 prayer pitfall that can actually make you sick if you're not careful (this is one of the most important bits of wisdom you'll ever gain) . . .
  • 47 scientifically proven benefits of prayer, including pain relief, reduced risk of death from heart attack or stroke, lessened anxiety or depression, and more . . .
  • And much, much more . . .
This video does not promote any specific religion or spiritual practice. But it does shed light on a practice that 3 out of 4 Americans engage in on a regular basis — a practice basically ignored by the mainstream media.
Please don't delay watching this. You could get busy and forget — or the video could be removed and you'll have lost this special opportunity.
Dedicated to your healthy mind and brain,
Travis Davis

Alzheimer's Disease, Dementia are preventable

Cheapcures for every Juan

In this presentation, Dr. Blaylock, a retired neurosurgeon says that the following:  Parkinson, dementia, Alzheiemers are preventable (reversible too)

These nuero diseases, coming with the advanced age are results of inflammation and free radical damage.

Other causes:  eating too much food with Omega 6, harmful substances in food, excitoxins, toxic metals in air, water, and food we eat (including toothpaste), vaccines, pesticides and herbicides (in fruits and vegetables we eat including GMO), sugar and sugar substitutes.  Obviously, to avoid the nuerodiseases, these causes must be controlled/prevented.   And they are preventable

Dear Reader,

I love growing my own vegetables. I'm like a kid in a candy store when my garden starts to sprout. For me there are few sights more welcome than vines heavy with little red cherry tomatoes and the tops of carrots and parsnips standing tall out of the soil.

It turns out, though, that a villain could be lurking in the garden. A villain that could easily be mistaken for those carrots or parsnips. Or anise or parsley.

One that, if eaten, can, in a matter of just a few minutes, send you straight to the emergency room...or worse.

Hemlock is the very thing that did Socrates in after he was convicted of corrupting youth in ancient Athens. And it could do you in too if you're not careful.

Poison hemlock is a fern-like plant that could easily be mistaken for several garden-variety plants. In fact, it was by a 35-year old man just this year.

The gardner wasn't sure what it was, but he figured it was okay since it was in his garden. It just didn't occur to him that something toxic could be growing among those veggies and fruits.

So he prepared it with some other vegetables and ate it. Ten minutes later, he felt tremors through his entire body. His muscles seemed delayed, and his eyes weren't tracking. He ended up in the emergency room for four hours.

This is only one of five cases of hemlock poisoning this year. Other people have mistaken it for exotic lettuces because it showed up among some lettuce starts. How could such a thing happen? It's easy--hemlock seeds can sometimes end up in soil mixtures used at nurseries for plant starts. Water, birds, and rodents can also spread the seeds.

Poison hemlock can grow in almost any climate, so it's critical that you know how to identify it. It's actually a member of the carrot family. It grows 4 to 6 feet tall and has white flowers and fern-like leaves. All parts of the plant are dangerous.

Early symptoms of hemlock poisoning include confusion, muscle paralysis, and a burning sensation in the mouth. The poisoning soon leads to respiratory failure and death.

If you find poison hemlock in your garden, put on gloves and pull it up. Put it in a bag and seal it up before disposing of it.

This fact sheet offers information about poison hemlock, including photos.

Yours in good health,

Christine O'Brien

The necessity of niacin

Q: I've heard that niacin is related to the development of dementia. How, and what should I be doing?

Dr. Wright: It's been known for more than 70 years that a severe deficiency of niacin, a form of vitamin B3, can lead to dementia in a relatively short period of time. But now we know that for some people, even a slight deficiency over a much longer time period could have the same devastating effects.

Of course, it won't happen to most of us, since nutrient requirements can vary from person to person a thousandfold or more, depending both on the specific nutrient and on your individual genetics. But for those of us genetically programmed to need more niacin, it's a real hazard. Until genetic testing can tell us specifically who's at risk, we all need to pay attention.

Researchers at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP) in Atlanta conducted a study to determine if small degrees of niacin insufficiency could contribute to Alzheimer's disease. They checked the dietary intake of niacin in 3,718 individuals over a nine-year period and gave them cognitive tests every three years.

The researchers found that lower niacin intake from foods was, in fact, associated with developing Alzheimer's disease. Conversely, they found that higher food intake of niacin could help prevent dementia. In the study, higher levels of niacin were also associated with a slower annual rate of age-related, non-Alzheimer's cognitive decline.

Higher doses of niacin can also help reverse certain types of dementia. For example, Abram Hoffer, M.D., has demonstrated for more than 40 years that high doses of niacinamide (another form of vitamin B3) can actually reverse many cases of schizophrenia if started soon enough after diagnosis.
