Many heart patients, according to UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas get diagnostic treatment called echocardiograms but has not resulted in the outcome of their treatments.  According to lead researcher Dr.  Susan Matulevicius, the cardiograms are appropiate with present protocols for treatment of heart ailments, but no one has looked into the good it does to the patient.

The researchers reviewed 535 patients in 2011 at UT  and found out that only 1/3 procedures resulted in the improvement of the patients.

The amount spent for the procedure which amounted to $l.1 billion or total imaging costs paid for by Medicare.  Susan argues that the amount spent could have been better spent elsewhere.   The value of the echocardiograms which sees how well the heart is functioning is useful in case of heart failures.

Some doctors disagree however.
