In a TV show yesterday where the death of actor James Gandolfini was being discussed, the doctor who was in the show kept on prescribing aspirin as blood thinner.  However, there is an undesireable side effect of gastric discomfort.  I could not tolerate aspirin, even the baby aspirin or aspilets.

There are however natural blood thinners as mentioned in the food pharmacy by Jean Carper.

They are onions, garlic, which according to Dr. Gurewhich of Tuft University contains adenosine which prevent aggregation of platelets and hence blood clots. (page 32 The Food Pharmacy)

Another food that thins blood is melon.  Melon (together with aspirin) caused blood platelets to homogonize.  Others are fungus -  tree ear mushroom and ginger.

Ginger which contains gingerol was found by both Indian researchers and Dr. Charles Dorso of Cornell University to be more effective than onions or garlic.  Gingerol has an amazing structure similar to aspirin. (page 209)

Danish investigator K. C Srivistava  found that ginger prevented the synthesis of  thromboxane an enzyme signal platelets to agrgegate prior to clotting

So there you are - there is no need to have perforated gut while thinning your blood.

Another natural blood thinner is taheebo (balbas pusa Ortoshiphon aristatus) which is widely used as hypotensive agent and diuretic  It is widely used by Phil herbolarios
