Chagas is a deadly disease caused by a parasite called vinchucas, which affect as many as 15 million worldwide, killing at least 15,000 a year mostly in Latin America.  The parasite affects the heart;  ther parasite eating at the cardiac muscles, or eat away the intestinal walls leading to massive bleeding.  It is incurable in adults, and is debilitating.  It is easy to detect with a blood test, but presents few symptoms.  It is most prevalent in Salta province in northwester Argentina.

     The burden of Chagas worldwide could be $7 billion a year, compared to cervical cancer to be below $5 billion.  Chagas which is caused by trypanosomes parasite, is brought to US by Latin American migrants.
