Here is a list of food ingredients that you should try to avoid in processed food, according to Dr Charles Platkin, a professor of Nutrition at CUNY Public Health Center, an author and a nutrition columnist.  The ingredients in themselves are not toxic but they build up over time.

The list:

l.  Hydrogenated fats/oils

2.  Potassium bromate

3.  Nitrates

4.  Certain food colorings

5.  Large amount of sugar

6.  Artificial sweeteners.

7.  High Fructose corn syrup

8.  Large amounts of sodium
