Vit B3, Niacinamide vs Aging, Alzheimers; improving Brain Function

Effective Cures Can be Cheap

The benefits of a common vitamin, B3, Niacinamide in the following age related diseases:  aging, osteoarthritis, diabetes, insomnia has been unheralded.

It is also effective in slowing down aging. And is non toxic, and no known side effect.

Here is the full article:

"Did You Know...

... that niacinamide (Vitamin B3) not only silences the "aging gene" ... but also effectively alleviates the symptoms of diabetes, osteoarthritis, anxiety, insomnia, and more?

Niacin, the most widely recognized form of vitamin B3, has long been celebrated for its dramatic benefits in cholesterol reduction.  However, vitamin B3 in its niacinamide form has—until recently—been woefully underappreciated for its truly remarkable health benefits in the treatment of...

A Breakthrough Discovery

The effects of niacinamide were first studied in the 1930s by Dr. William Kaufman.  He discovered that inadequate amounts of dietary niacinamide could be responsible for a long list of physical and mental problems that had been previously blamed on "normal" aging.  Research now proves that supplementing with niacinamide can prevent or reverse many of these age-related ailments.

According to Daniel Bourassa, D.C., niacinamide is effective against "diabetes, osteoarthritis, anxiety, and insomnia, and for reducing the aggression threshold during stressful events."

Dr. Bourassa goes on to explain, "Patients taking niacinamide for anxiety and stress usually report they soon feel 'normal' again and can 'deal' with their stress."

Niacinamide:  A Promising Cure for Alzheimer's?

Dr. Arturo Volpe of Natural Health Solutions in Houston, Texas specializes in drug-free solutions to many health challenges.  He says there's reason to be excited about results from a recent University of California at Irvine study of niacinamide against Alzheimer's.

The study was performed on mice genetically programmed to develop Alzheimer's, and niacinamide cured the disease in these test animals.

However, Dr. Volpe says the most promising aspect of the study is that "even the healthy mice that were given this vitamin experienced remarkable improvements in memory."  This is a benefit he says is likely to extend to humans.

"Whether this amazing nutrient will turn out to be a wonder drug for Alzheimer's remains to be seen," says Dr. Volpe, "but in the meantime many of us can take advantage of its multiple benefits."

Silencing the "Aging Gene"

Recent research shows that the gene known as Sir2 produces a protein that extends cell life and plays a role in metabolism, gene silencing, and cellular life extension.  It is now known that niacinamide enhances its activity of silencing the "aging" gene.

For this reason, some experts including Dr. Bourassa suggest that niacinamide is an essential anti-aging nutrient for those seeking to slow down the aging curve.

Reduces Arthritis Pain As Effectively As—If Not Better Than—NSAIDs

For 50 years, niacinamide has been well documented to effectively relieve the pain of arthritis—with no toxicity and only rare side effects.

Benefits may take a few weeks to set in, but once they do, the degree of pain reduction is comparable or superior to that of NSAIDs such as ibuprofen, for which long-term use is associated with serious side effects, including bladder cancer.

Battling Blood Sugar

Niacinamide's benefits for diabetes include improving glucose metabolism ... stimulating cellular energy production ... and improving peripheral blood flow—all crucial for fighting this destructive condition.

Remarkable Benefits for the Brain

Niacinamide's dramatic brain benefits were first discovered by Abraham Hoffer, M.D. in the 1970s.  "Not only did Dr. Hoffer discover these benefits, he proved them through various studies that have long been forgotten to the benefit of the patented drug industry," says Dr. Volpe.

Dr. Hoffer was interested in normalizing levels of nutrients in the brain to optimize mental health rather than using drugs to mask symptoms.

While working with young adults with schizophrenia, and with children and adults with bipolar and behavioral disorders, Dr. Hoffer discovered something extraordinary.  When he gave these patients high doses of niacinamide, many recovered and others improved greatly.  None of the side effects common with psychiatric medications ("dulling" of the brain and altering personality) occurred with niacinamide.

Later, niacinamide proved equally valuable for anxiety disorders.

Supplementing with Niacinamide

"For adults an average dose of niacinamide might be in the range of 1,000 mg 3 times a day, and this applies regardless of the reason for taking it," says Dr. Volpe.

Experts advise that niacinamide at therapeutic doses of up to 3 grams a day for an adult and 100-500 mg for a child in 2-3 divided doses is usually well tolerated.

For anti-aging, a dose of 2 to 3 grams daily is often recommended, along with a complete B complex or multivitamin.
