Organic farming in Tagbac Elementary School, Oton, Iloilo

Live healthy and long

I was in Iloilo during the last 3 days and joined the school feeding program sponsored by the company where I work.  The value proposition of the feeding program is prevent degradation of the mental capacity of elementary school children who are handicapped by malnutrition ie they do not eat breakfast before going to school.

But the school which we visited went beyond that.  They have an organic farming in the school, which they tend to beyond the school hours, to serve as example to subsistence rice farmers in the area, probably ensure food security, and promote health and nutrition (riding on the organic wave)

But it seems that this is the only public school engaged in this endeavor, and which does not enjoy government support before (the school does not from the mayor and the provincial government) and DA.

The head, Ms. Emma Caballero, is a candidate for the masteral degree, is not an agriculturist, and is doing mostly self studies, via books, and seminars to pursue this project.  She is networked with Remnants in Iloilo which is espousing alternative medicine.  (I could not contact their website though:  www.remnant-institute.com
